Executive TL;DR

  • AppLovin (APP)’s Q3 2026 revenue reached $2.18 billion (up 55%), about $100 million above the top of guidance, with an 84% adjusted EBITDA margin and $1.4 billion of free cash flow.

  • Q4 guidance of $2.365 billion to $2.395 billion implies roughly 43.5% growth at the midpoint, a slower rate set against a Q4 2025 comparison that grew 66%.

  • Gaming grew nearly 50% year over year, while consumer advertiser spend grew triple digits, and the next-generation model architecture is only partially rolled out.

  • Balance sheet strength is unusual for the sector: $3.17 billion of cash against $3.52 billion of debt, and a repurchase authorization lifted to $3.6 billion.

  • The SEC inquiry closed with no recommended action, yet a securities class action, mixed competitive data, and a heavier R&D bill remain as ongoing debates for investors.

  • Our illustrative 2027 scenarios point to free cash flow between roughly $5.9 billion and $7.7 billion, which frames how much the market needs to pay for that stream.

AppLovin (APP) entered its third-quarter report with shares down roughly 59% for 2026 YTD, after a Q2 revenue miss, an SEC overhang, a class action, and a steady stream of competition headlines.

The company then produced its largest sequential dollar increase in revenue, about $260 million more than Q2, and guided Q4 well above consensus, which led to a 10% jump in stock in a single day.

That latest print showed that the demand and model performance recovered, but management still positions the new architecture as a partial rollout, and the Q4 outlook shows growth cooling toward the low 40s as comparisons stiffen.

This deep-dive fundamental analysis report breaks down the numbers, the cash economics, competitive evidence, scenario paths for 2027 & more, so you can judge what the business can earn, how much of that’s returned to shareholders, and what could break the pattern.

Let’s get started.

Business Model

AppLovin acts as an agent in its ad transactions, so revenue is booked net of the cost of the inventory it buys. The revenue recognition policy recognizes revenue when an impression is delivered or an action such as an install occurs.

Contracts are cancelable at any time, and payment terms run 30 days after month end.

That structure rewards constant performance: if returns on ad spend slip, budgets can move within days.

How a dollar flows through APP
1. Advertiser sets a return goal and budget in AppLovin Ads
2. Axon models predict which impressions meet that goal
3. AppLovin bids for inventory (MAX supply and third-party exchanges)
4. Revenue = advertiser spend minus inventory cost paid to publishers
5. Better predictions lift return, which pulls in larger budgets

The flywheel in step 5 explains why model quality dominates the earnings story. A model improvement raises advertiser returns, advertisers raise budgets, and more budget produces more data to train the next model.
